Finance Innovation Technical Director 

 

 


The Technical Director will be responsible for management and technical direction of finance activities within and across multiple programs, projects, and regions to effectively advance CI’s conservation strategies and outcomes. Drawing upon domain expertise from within and beyond CI, the Technical Director will provide and deliver specialized advisory and support related to opportunities for the design, development and mobilization of products that channel capital toward sustainable, ‘planet positive’ development projects and initiatives.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program/Project Advisory – Serve as key subject matter expert and advisor on public, private and/or blended financing strategies relevant to the alignment of nature protection and sustainable development in both maritime and/or oceans and terrestrial/land-based contexts.
  • Product Design & Development – Together with financial institution partners, design, prototype, and develop financing products, mechanisms that have the potential to catalyze institutional investment in planet positive projects and investments 
  • Partnerships & Networks – Cultivate and manage global, regional, and national network of financial sector partners relevant to advancing finance strategies in key CI geographies
  • Fundraising – Mobilize capital for proposed strategies and/or initiatives, and to advance development of program/practice area within CI    


QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education and professional experience equivalent to a bachelors’ degree and [seven (7)] years of relevant experience in debt capital markets, leveraged finance, project finance or related disciplines
  • Two (2) or more years of direct experience developing, supervising, and motivating multi-disciplinary teams 
  • Demonstrated experience with all stages of transaction origination, structuring, diligence, negotiation, and execution, and ability to present investment recommendations to executive-level decisionmakers supported by strong qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills and direct experience managing and supervising complex, large-scale programs/projects/transactions involving multiple stakeholders
  • Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and demonstrated capabilities in all aspects of credit and financial analyses and modeling; experience conducting in-depth fundamental macroeconomic, microeconomic, and political risk analyses in emerging markets contexts
  •  Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong relationships with national and international financial institutions, policymakers, academics, and other experts
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, synthesize, translate, and communicate complex financial and non-financial data, information and concepts to diverse audiences
  •  Ability to work effectively in individual and team-based settings; experience working with diverse groups in a multicultural environment.
  • A record of success in influencing and partnering with key stakeholders and raising funds.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced, highly matrixed environment with changing priorities and under minimal supervision. 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

       Progressively experience in debt capital markets, leveraged finance, project finance and related disciplines in a development context

       Experience in the analysis, design, and structuring of investments in distressed sovereigns, including but not limited to, issuance, restructure and/or repurchase of sovereign debt to generate funding in support of national climate adaptation and/or mitigation, nature conservation, and sustainable development objectives.

       Working familiarity of ocean and land-based sectors including, marine and terrestrial protected areas, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, agriculture, forestry, and other primary production sectors

       Familiarity with ‘green’ and ‘blue’ bonds principles and other sustainable finance-related products

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS


  • This position will require frequent travel domestic and international travel (30% or more) as well as communication at different time zones.
  •   May need to work out of doors for extended periods.
  • Ability to work extended work hours to meet project deadlines.
  • CI’s Asia-Pacific Field Division is headquartered in Singapore. Preference for position to be placed in Singapore or Jakarta.
