1.     BACKGROUND

ACTION – Active Citizens Building Solidarity and Resilience in Response to COVID-19 is an EU-funded project. The main objective is to enhance poor and marginalized community resilience and solidarity in responding to the impacts of pandemics. The project is implemented by a consortium initiated by Hivos and consists of other 5 national NGOs, namely: CISDI, KAPAL Perempuan, PAMFLET, PUPUK, and SAPDA.

This project targets marginalized and high-risk populations in rural and urban areas in two phases. Phase one focuses on activities response, such as health care, and water and sanitation systems. Phase two addresses the social and economic recovery. The project will be implemented in 5 provinces in Indonesia, which included Jakarta, South Sulawesi, Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, and West Java. The duration of ACTION is in 24 months.

The project will support essential health care, mental health services, water and sanitation systems, farming initiatives, employment and skills training, fundraising assistance, financial assistance assessment, as well as relevant public awareness campaigns. The project will also support the government at all levels to tackle the impacts of the pandemic and respond to emergency needs. Using a multi-sectoral approach, many parties will be involved, such as civil society, community organizations, government, and the private sector in fields ranging from health and social welfare to governance, livelihoods, and food security. Amongst the beneficiaries are people with disability, the elderly, women, children, youth, marginalized groups, farmers, landless laborers, and micro and small-scale producers. The project aims to reach 15000 beneficiaries of rural and urban poor.

In implementing the project, the consortium will have various activities related to Outcome IV: Smallholder producers, workers, and agricultural SMEs with improved access to markets and new opportunities to sell their goods. Related to this outcome, in coordination with Hivos Field Facilitator Consultant for Jakarta-Bogor Area, a consultant will be assigned to be in charge as a trainer in East Jakarta City Community to train poor and marginalized community households on Urban Farming (Activity 4.2.1).

 

2.     OBJECTIVE

The objectives of this assignment are:

-       Support and connect urban farming initiatives to marketing opportunities

-       To strengthen the food security of poor and marginalized community households at the family level

 

The specific target of this assignment are:

-       400 poor and marginalized community households from 8 villages in East Jakarta City with increased skills & knowledge of urban farming (50 participants per village)

 

 

 

3.     SCOPE OF WORK

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Prepare and deliver the training on urban farming to poor and marginalized community households:
    1. How to produce their own food in areas where land supply is restricted
    2. using environmentally friendly and recycled equipment
    3. Implement agronomy training:
      1. covering preparation of seedlings
      2. application of fertilizer and pesticides
      3. irrigation and harvesting.
    4. Use of recycled household items as farming pots where land is limited
    5. Set up and coordinate maintenance of urban farming demonstration plots in each village.
  2. Work with ACTION team to support urban farming initiatives to access marketing opportunities
    1. Work together field teams for activity coordination
    2. Coordinate training participants to conduct Urban Farming Market Day
  3. Perform other functions as assigned, including:
    1. Organize databases and documents related to training activities including administrative and finance-related files, reports, and ToR
    2. Administer documentation related to on-field implementation in ACTION project areas

 

 

4.    PERIOD OF WORK

The period of assignment of this contract is based on a 4 month (max. 20 working days/month) contract from 25 February 2022 - 30 June 2022.

 

5.     CONSULTANT FEE

The rate for this role is IDR 325.000 - IDR 350.000 /day/person inclusive of tax.

 

6.    REQUIREMENTS

The service provider must comply with the following qualifications:

-       Indonesian nationals

-       Knowledge of and current topics on the COVID-19 response program with civil society organizations and marginalized communities is an advantage

-       Background in the environment, farming, or economic development is an advantage

-       Experience in working on on-field implementation

-       Have at least 2 years of experience as a trainer

-       Based in Jakarta
