[Traineeship Program Notice] GIZ Indonesia for the Peatland Management and Rehabilitation (PROPEAT) project: Trainee for Peat Hydrological Assessment for Rehabilitation Planning

 As a part of Indonesia – German Cooperation in reducing emission from forestry sector as well as improving livelihood of rural communities a project name Peatland Management and Rehabilitation has been implemented.  The project aims to develop the planning and implementation capacities to rehabilitate peat ecosystem and mangrove forest in Kayan Sembakung Delta of North Kalimantan. The project also supports improving peatland management in East Kalimantan where Middle Mahakam area is the largest part of peat hydrological unit in East Kalimantan. The module combines policy and capacity development measures. Activities are implemented at the macro-meso and micro levels (pilot measures are used here as well).  Improved management practices of peat and wetland ecosystem is one of the expected outputs from this project. The support for social forestry in peat and mangrove ecosystem and development of Desa Mandiri Peduli Gambut (DMPG) are among others. 

 

For this reason, PROPEAT seeks a qualified Indonesian candidate of trainee for the following position:

                                           

Trainee for Peat Hydrological Assessment for Rehabilitation Planning

 

 

A.  Responsibilities

 

Experience and learn the inner working of the project to support the Peatland Management and Rehabilitation project in establishing demonstration pilot for peat rehabilitation and management in various land use through biophysical, hydrological, and social assessment of disturbances in peatlands, developing peatland rehabilitation and management plans, developing technical designs for peatland rehabilitation. At the same time the trainee will learn with the project on how the project work within GIZ

 

B.  Tasks

 

·         Assist the technical advisors in collecting data and information related the biophysical, hydrological, and social aspect on peat disturbance in the Middle Mahakam area.
·         Assist the technical advisor in analyzing and developing rehabilitation design and hydrological strategies (canal blocking) for peat restoration in the Middle Mahakam.
·         Assist the technical advisor in engaging with parties on conducting peat rehabilitation activities
·         Support the project in providing the spatial base information and conducting spatial analysis 
·         Assist in organizing field activities and facilitate discussion with communities, including provide the field report and high light note. 

 

C.    Required qualifications, competences and experience

 

Qualifications

·         Fresh graduate with Bachelor or active student Master of Science in environment, forestry, or agriculture.

 

Professional experiences

·         Voluntary experience in international organization that works on environmental, biodiversity or forestry issues.

·         Have basic knowledge of knowledge management, bilateral cooperation, and sustainable development.

·         Basic knowledge on peatland issues.

·         Good oral and written communications in English and Indonesia;

·         Good conceptual, analytical thinking, inter-personal, communication, negotiation, co-ordination, facilitation and representation skills;

·         Knowledge and skills about digitalization;

·         Strong interest to work on issues related to gender, natural resource management, and agriculture.

 

Other knowledge, additional competences

·         Good communication, organisational and information management skills;

·         Intercultural understanding is additional advantages;

·         Self-motivated with time and stress management skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.

·         Good command of Ms. Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word);

·         Experience with Geo spatial analysis application such as ArcGIS

·         Proficiency in English and very good writing skills;

·         Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.

Working Hours: 5 working days per week, 8 working hours per day
