Terms of Reference – Technology & Engineering Manager
Canopy Guard Indonesia seeks to fill the position of ‘Technology & Engineering Manager’ (TEM). TEM will report directly to the CEO and be part of the management board of the company. TEM will lead a small team for the operation of drones during field trials and preparations of the same. Besides this, TEM will design, prototype, and implement tools, machines, and processes for insect production.
TEM needs to combine hands-on initiative in the areas of drones and engineering, and creative thinking for (internal) product- and process development. TEM will be involved in strategy development and implementation as the domain expert for engineering questions and must be able to integrate their domain-expertise with subject matter outside their comfort zone. TEM must be able to communicate technical details to colleagues of other professions.
TEM will enter a development path for higher management, incorporating strategy development, management of large teams and customer interaction.
Responsibilities
- Perform all tasks relating to drone technologies within the company, among others but not limited to:
- Calibrate drone system (DJI Matrice 600 + Natutec Drone)
- Operate drone system during field trials
- Fixing and maintenance of drone system
- Perform all engineering tasks relating to insect production methods, among others but not limited to:
- Work closely with R&D management during design process to develop automation technology to enhance production efficiency and innovate service offering
- Build prototypes according to jointly developed designs
- Work with R&D- and production management to test prototypes and assure exhaustive testing of prototypes for effectiveness and usability, as well as implementation of latest iterations in company processes
- Provide technical analyses, user flow, design specification or any other type of documentation to communicate effectively with the team about prototypes and other technologies
- As part of the product design process, you are required to contribute critical thinking to conceptual team-discussions, and maintain consistency in the design/prototyping system
- Contribute to strategy development:
- Contribute to strategy development by providing expert knowledge and -opinion from drone- and engineering-perspective
- Integrate domain-expertise with knowledge about the oil palm industry in general and our customers in particular
Required skills
- License to operate DJI Matrice 600 (Pro) commercially, maintain and fix the drone system
- Applied and theoretical expertise in electrical engineering
- Ample experience in rapid prototyping
- Ability to lead teams of engineers
- Ability to communicate abstract concepts and applied technologies to colleagues from other professions
- Knowledge of the latest developments in agri-tech, precision farming and related industries
- Understanding of the South-East Asian oil palm industry and their growing practices
- Clear understanding of Canopy Guard’s target market to make sure product design and innovation is in line with current challenges and needs
Qualifications
- Keen eye for details and of organised nature, highly motivated to solve problems
- Have good communication- and interpersonal skills (including: presentation, managing expectation, negotiation)
- Fluency in English verbal communication (written is an advantage)
Development outlook
- The Technology & Engineering Manager will develop to the position of Head of Technology & Engineering (HTE)
- HTE will train new drone pilots, lead a team of drone pilots, and lead a team of engineers for technology development & maintenance
- HTE will propose new design initiatives and creative solutions that deliver not only customer value but also solve business objectives
- HTE will communicate technologies to stakeholders within and outside of the company
- HTE will develop and implement a long-term technology strategy for Canopy Guard
