Train of Trainers  -  Capacity building

PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM

On 28 September 2018, a 7.4M earthquake struck Donggala, Central Sulawesi. The major earthquake triggered near-field tsunami affecting Palu City and coastal areas and settlements in Donggala, major liquefaction, and landslides, which resulted in direct damage and constrained humanitarian access (AHA Centre). To date (14 Oct), 634 aftershocks have been reported occurring in Central Sulawesi. The most affected areas are the districts of Palu City, Donggala and Sigi. Latest report from AHA indicates 2,100 casualties with over 4,612 major injuries, 680 missing, and 78,994 displaced, spread across 147 evacuation sites. Approximately 66,926 houses are damaged. 67 children have been reported loss and separated in Palu as of October 9 and of these only 8 have been reunified. Most of the assistance that have been accepted or channeled to affected areas include WASH, NFIs distribution, logistics and transportation, emergency telecommunication, expertise, and food assistance.

In this context, our staff have been working in very challenging and stressful situation to meet the urgent need of the community. While during the first stage of the response we focused on emergencies and fast response, moving towards the sustainability of our capacity building to continue supporting Central Sulawesi we need to ensure humanitarian and leadership expertise. One of the challenges we face is the continuity of strong leadership management due to limited leadership skills of our national and local staff. In order to build a strong capacity within our organization we need to provide development programs to fill in the current gap and also strengthen the current pool of leaders to step in to the next level.

Therefore, an advanced leadership development curricula and Train of Trainers (TOT) are required to provide the necessary knowledge and elevate our staff’ leadership competencies spectrum and building our capacity of sustainability in developing our staff members through training and facilitation skills.
