WRI Indonesia is looking for Low Carbon Technology Analyst

 Program Overview

Launched in early 2014, WRI Indonesia builds on WRI’s global 20-year history in the country. The official establishment of the WRI Indonesia office has strengthened our impacts on the ground in recent years. Our current work primarily focuses on forest and land use. Over time WRI Indonesia aims to expand its portfolio to include climate, energy, and city and transportation. In the last four years, WRI Indonesia has worked with the demand side of the renewable energy sector and established the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA) initiative.

CEIA is an innovative public-private partnership initiative that aims to address barriers and scale up renewable energy (RE) deployment for commercial and industrial consumers in emerging markets. CEIA is jointly led by the World Resources Institute (WRI), Allotrope Partners, and the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and is supported by bilateral and philanthropic donors. Under the Climate Solution Project (CSP), on October 7th, 2022, CEIA Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Java Provincial Government to decarbonize West Java’s industrial area, including the Rebana Metropolitan.

In the MoU, one of our assistances covers a low-carbon development strategic analysis through industrial energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) technology, including electricity, heat, cooling, and steam, in one of the Rebana’s industrial area, namely Cipali Subang Barat. The knowledge products expected from our scope of assistance are a marginal abatement cost curve (MACC) for at least one of the most prominent industry sub-sectors, technology mapping for the planned industrial sub-sector, investment analysis, and potential financing scheme options and business models. Additionally, we will cover low-carbon technology mapping to the building and transportation sector in the area.

The work in Rebana Metropolitan will complement our other diverse works in the industrial decarbonization space. In the next 5 years, we are advancing our expertise to decarbonize within the manufacturing industries under the Sustainable Energy Transition Indonesia (SETI) project. In this project, we will focus on providing our assistance to industries on clean power, heat, and energy efficiency and co-lead the championing in the strategic industrial sectors.
