[Traineeship Program Notice] GIZ Indonesia for The Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains in Indonesia (SASCI) with Bioframe project: Trainee

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations on behalf of the German Government. GIZ is active in Kapuas Hulu since 2010, aiming to reduce deforestation through a number of different approaches, currently focused on implementation of a project named “Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chain in Indonesia (SASCI)” which aims to support rubber and oil palm supply chains by smallholder farmers to become more sustainable and to increase smallholder income from the estate crop farming.

The supply chain approach is combined with support to a “Green Economy” in Kapuas Hulu. Here the aim is to strengthen the value chains for products from the forest or other nature-like systems. This should lead to a higher economic value of the natural ecosystems. A pilot project under the global Biodiversity and Framework (Bioframe) project is starting up in Kapuas Hulu with focus on “Tengkawang”, an oily nut from a tree species that is found naturally in the forests of Borneo. This pilot project is implemented with the Directorate of Agriculture and Food of the National Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) to support the Government of Indonesia in carrying out green economic recovery measures aimed at restoration and conservation of forest ecosystems. Lessons learned from the pilot project will contribute to mainstreaming biodiversity and climate-related aspects into national economic recovery efforts as well as into processes under the CBD and the new Global Biodiversity Framework.

Indonesia is one of three countries selected to pilot Green Economic Recovery measures along with two other countries namely South Africa and Costa Rica. The location chosen to be the pilot area for this activity is Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan. The project consists of four main outputs: (1) Green economy recovery measures; (2) Conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems; (3) Contribution to national economic recovery efforts; (4) Mainstreaming into international biodiversity processes.

To support implementation of the project, we seek one (1) motivated and qualified Indonesian candidate from a local university in West Kalimantan to fill the position as:
